Operation Transformation! : Haiti Lifeline Ministries
Meeting needs with your unneeded items
Three-Fold Mission:
- Transform children’s daily lives by meeting basic needs.
- Transform hearts by spreading Jesus’ love.
- Transform our homes, by eliminating extra/unused items.
If you’re like us, over the past week you have seen the images from Haiti; you’ve felt the desire to help in some way, but have possibly been unsure of how to assist the people there.
For many, money is already tight. There are countless other needs and causes that cry out for our assistance. For many of us, we don’t have the “extra” money we used to have and often feel unable to give or help the way we wish we could. However, whatever we have – be it much or little - it is far more than most of the children in Haiti will ever even dream of having.
On Sunday night, we listened as my brother and sister told stories of the children at this particular orphanage. We were heartbroken to realize that our dog eats better than these children. The younger ones do not have the diapers they need or formula or other basic supplies. They lack proper shoes and clothing. The only electricity the orphanage has is from a generator that runs on diesel fuel. All of these things cost money, which we’ve already stated, we all feel short on already.
So, an idea came to mind that we’re getting excited about: Finances may be tight during this time in our lives, but something that is probably abundant in almost every home are unneeded items that we haven’t taken the time to remove. Locally, what we would like to consider doing (with your help!) is to have a community sale with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit Haiti Lifeline Ministries Orphanage (http://www.haitilifelineministries.com). If you would like to help, we would love to have the help. If you have items to donate to the cause, we will take them. If you need us to pick them up, we will. Also, for some of the larger items, we could all upload pictures to this site, along with a suggested price – again, with the proceeds going to this orphanage to supply these children with what they need right now.
Of course, if you would like to donate cash, that will gladly be accepted as well. Or if you are not local here in northeast Kansas – PLEASE consider doing something similar in your area and donating the funds to this orphanage or any other charity in Haiti that you feel would most benefit from your gift (there are many!).
Now that you have the vision, here are the details:
- Date: Friday, February 5 – Saturday, February 6 (drop of begins on Thursday, February 4, noon until 8 p.m.)
- Time: Friday – 7 a.m. - 7 p.m; Saturday, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Location: Journey Church, 21st and Gage in Topeka
What we need:
- Donations:
- Items to sell – Due to the potential size of this event, we prefer that all items be donated without expectation of them being returned. Items that do not sell will be taken to a local organization such as Goodwill or the Topeka Rescue Mission. If you have a particular item that you do want if it does not sell, we ask that you pick up said items by 1 p.m. on Saturday. Anything left at the end of the sale, will be donated. Items do not need to be priced or marked.
- Pick up is available for those donating items to the sale. Please contact Matt at 925.1969 if you need to arrange pick up of your items.
- We are seeking business donations for a silent auction. We are also seeking volunteers to solicit these donations. We have received several exciting donations already; thank you to those who have already contributed!
- There is also the possibility of a bake sale in conjunction with the garage sale. We would need baked good donated for this purpose.
- Volunteers:
- We will need help setting up (5:00 p.m. – late evening Thursday) and tearing down this event (Saturday, after 4:00 p.m.), as well as manning the sale itself.
- Promotions: we need someone to make the necessary contacts with the local media to promote the event
- newspaper
- local radio
- local television

Thank you so much for your consideration of this opportunity to be God’s hands and feet to the “least of these”. Let’s transform these kids lives by transforming ours!
For His Glory,
Matt & Sara Vincent
